Project Updates: Exclusive Project Runway All Stars review: Confusing corsets

Hello everybrody,

This week’s Project Runway All Stars saw the designers letting the corset inspire this week’s looks. But should these designs have stayed under wraps?
Project Runway All Stars tackled a fashion trend that has seen a resurgence this week Although the corset has been around for ages, more designers are using this undergarment as part of a fashionable design. Beyond the structure and fit that a corset provides, it can also provide inspiration for a feminine or edgy look.

In this week’s challenge, the designers had to create a high fashion look that celebrates a woman’s figure. Most important, the corset had to be incorporated into the silhouette and be visible. The key to this design is more than just boning and support. These looks should have pushed the designers’ aesthetic in a different direction. The key is “should.”

While this fashion trend is new again, the idea of showing off a corset in a design has been around for centuries. From Edwardian gowns with wasp waists to Scarlett O’Hara holding onto the bed post for lace up support, the corset is an integral part of women’s fashion. It creates an hourglass silhouette, which is considered very feminine.

For any good corset to work in a design, the fit needs to be impeccable. No woman wants to feel that she is falling out, spilling over, or being stabbed by boning. To do this type of design well, the designers needed to have a deft hand. Some did, and others might need to take a few technique courses.

One aspect to this challenge was quite surprising. All the designers were given a standard corset. Sure, there was only one day to create this look, but it is Project Runway All Stars. Shouldn’t all these “winners” be able to make a standard corset without this huge piece of assistance? To me, it seemed a little like authorized cheating.

Charmed Updates: Exclusive Spotlight On "Charmed" Books, With New Novel Penned By Various, "The Warren Witches" Finally Added!

Hello everybody,

I am trying to make something different here with "Charmed Novel" since the page that I am building is already online for your viewing. Let's continue this week with the online novel penned by various from the "Charmed" universe, "The Warren Witches". The Warren Witches is a collection of eight short stories based on the series, featuring characters from both past and present.

"The most important thing in the Charmed Ones' lives isn't magic, and it's not their jobs or their clothes. It's family. Piper, Phoebe and Paige are Warren witches—the latest in a long line of women with incredible supernatural strength. For more than two centuries, the Warren witches have fearlessly practiced magic: From Melinda Warren in the 1600s to the Charmed Ones in 2005, the power of these witches is unsurpassed.

The Warren Witches recounts never-before-told stories of their lives—as women, as witches, and, most important, as members of a family of considerable magical strength and power. Above all, they are family; beyond all, they are witches."

New Appearance: Alyssa Milano's next viral cause: women's equality
Posted on 09 Feb 2019

Appearances icon

Ask Alyssa Milano what's next for the #MeToo movement, and she'll say it's the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, a Constitutional amendment that would grant women legal equality.

The United States almost ratified the proposed amendment in 1982, but three more states needed to approve it. (Before an amendment becomes part of the Constitution, three-fourths of states must adopt it.) Now the ERA is back in the news — and so is Milano along with it.

The amendment is now one state away from ratification, and the liberal actress and advocate is pushing for one more legislature to approve it. The amendment recently failed in Virginia, but Milano has been joining forces with politicians and tweeting about the ERA.

"Half of our battle as women is that we are looked at as less than, and I think that's why so many abuses of power are able to happen," she says.

This isn't the first time in recent years that the ERA has captured the public's attention. Back in 2015, Patricia Arquette called for equal rights while accepting an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. But Milano, specifically, has a knack for helping various causes go viral these days. In addition to her viral #MeToo tweet in 2017, she made headlines for staring down Brett Kavanaugh during his testimony. When Milano tweets about migrants and children at the border, her followers — and those holding the bullhorns in the social media sphere — tend to listen.

Separating families and traumatizing children is a choice we don’t need to keep making. We know how to fairly examine each case in a safe space.

Why aren’t we working toward that?

All people have rights. We need to respect those basic rights and uphold our values. #Tornillo pic.twitter.com/F52Urr3uKP

— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) December 13, 2018

Mark Harvey, the director of graduate and undergraduate programs at the University of Saint Mary and the author of Celebrity Influence: Politics, Persuasion, and Issue-Based Advocacy, says the celebrities who are effective and have the greatest influence tend to have some unique experience that connects them to the cause.

Charmed Updates: Exclusive The Charmed Wars Continue as Alyssa Milano Speaks About the Reboot!
Posted on 06 Jan 2019

Charmed Updates icon

Hello everybody,

The wars between the Charmed Ones has been exhausting already, and until the reboot premieres, I’m sure they won’t end, but as of right now, I’m not sure if this is helping anyone.

"Alyssa Milano, who is currently doing press for her Netflix show Insatiable, spoke about her displeasure with how the reboot has happened. “I wish that they would have come to us and we would have been involved since the beginning,” Milano told ET, “but having said that, I do hope that it reaches the newer generation and impacts that generation the way ours was able to do for its generation.”

When the possibility that she would make a cameo in the show, or direct an episode, was brought up, Milano quickly shot down the idea, saying, “I don’t think so. I think that that ship has sailed for me.”

The animosity between the old cast members and the new show will be an unfortunate blight on the series. With the exception of Rose McGowan, all the former cast members have said something disparaging about the new series. Most aggressive has been the original Piper, Holly Marie Combs (and considering Piper’s character, that is not super shocking)."

Hello everybody,

I am trying to make something different here with "Charmed Novel" since the page that I am building is already online for your viewing. Let's continue this week with the online novel penned by Carla Jablonski from the "Charmed" universe, The Gypsy Enchantment is the 7th book in the Charmed novels. It was written by Carla Jablonski and was released in 2001. The story takes place between Season 2 Episode 17 "How to Make a Quilt Out of Americans" and the finale "Be Careful What You Witch For" as Piper has ended her relationship with Dan, but he has not yet moved away. In addition, Phoebe has not yet gained her active power of Levitation.

"Description:

Three-ring acts and thice-told tales
Bring threefold power that never fails.
Gypsy legends, Gypsy lore,
Gypsy demons haunt no more.

Prue is in a serious funk. Her latest photo assignment for 415 is an in-depth article about the Carnival Cavalcade—circus acts in a tent, and a midway with games and food. Prue hates circuses, but Piper and Phoebe are up for meeting the tattooed snake-charmer, clowns, and especially Ivan, the handsome Gypsy animal trainer.

But a dark sign seems to mark him, and Phoebe has a vision of Piper—strangled by a handsome stranger! Could Ivan be a demon in disguise? A mysterious fire and a tragic death compel the Charmed Ones to use their gifts.

Now it's the Power of Three against the magic of ancient Gypsy forces!"

Project Updates: Exclusive Project Runway All Stars' Final Season Premiere Ends With a Huge Surprise
Posted on 05 Jan 2019

Projects icon

Hello everybody,

Lifetime kicked off its final season of Project Runway All Stars on Wednesday, pitting six previous American winners against six winners of various international franchises. (You know, we always had a feeling that World War III would be fought with needles and threads.)

In addition to the familiar faces — Anthony Ryan Auld (All Stars 2), Anya Ayoung-Chee (Season 9), Dmitry Sholokhov (Season 10 and All Stars 4), Irina Shabayeva (Season 6), Michelle Lesniak (Season 11), Sean Kelly (Season 13) and Seth Aaron Henderson (Season 7 and All Stars 3) — host Alyssa Milano welcomed Christina Exie (Australia), Cynthia Hayashi (Brazil), Django Steenbakker (Netherlands), Evan Biddell (Canada), Jasper Garvida (UK), Juli Grbac (Australia) and Sunny Fong (Canada) into the mix.

"Dmitry’s “romantic, cool” tribute to his home country of Belarus earned him the season’s first win. Georgina Chapman “adored” the cutouts and praised his “modern take on bohemia.” Added Isaac Mizrahi, “It’s kind of a dress that you could find in a shop — but in velvet, in that length, it’s fabulous.” Guest judge Debra Messing also enjoyed the outfit, even if she thought it was cotton at first.

Choosing a loser, however, proved slightly more difficult. So difficult, in fact, that it didn’t happen. Much to the delight of the two contestants up for elimination — Anthony, who attributed his mental absence to the recent loss of his grandmother, and Anya, who simply played it too safe with her flowy tribute to Trinidad and Tobago — Milano announced at the end of the episode that no one would be going home this week."

Charmed Updates: Exclusive OG Charmed Actress Alyssa Milano Weighs In On The Reboot, And Whether She'll Cameo In It!
Posted on 03 Jan 2019
Posted by Admin
Charmed Updates icon

Hello everybody,

espite claims that the Charmed reboot will be nothing but respectful of the original witchy series, the upcoming show has been mired in controversy since its beginnings (even though it’s bringing an actual witch to its writing room). A backlash led by and including the original’s main trio of actresses finally added its final sister to the discontent.

Alyssa Milano, the latest to add her opinion on the reboot to the alum consensus, spoke with Entertainment Tonight about Charmed 2.0. "I wish that they would have come to us and we would have been involved since the beginning," Milano said, echoing co-star Holly Marie Combs’ sentiment about wanting to reprise their roles.

"However, Milano did not share Combs’ concern that this job opportunity failed to surface solely due to age. Nor did she take the same stance as Shannen Doherty, who claimed that the marketing for the reboot was “a bit offensive.”

While none of the original sisters are pleased with the reboot, Milano at least conceded a bit of goodwill toward the new series before shutting down any hopes of her involvement. "I do hope that it reaches the newer generation and impacts that generation the way ours was able to do for its generation," the actress said before responding to a question of whether she would make a cameo or direct an episode of the new series.

"I don't think so," Milano said. "I think that that ship has sailed for me." Sorry, Charmed. Don’t expect any love from the OG witches."

Project Updates: Exclusive The 'Project Runway All Stars' Final Season Cast Is The Spinoff’s Most Impressive Yet
Posted on 30 Dec 2018
Posted by Admin
Projects icon

Hello everybody,

Scuttle on over to the accessory wall and use it very thoughtfully, because the cast of Project Runway All Stars' final season on Lifetime is going to be one for the Belk, er, books. As Entertainment Tonight exclusively revealed on Tuesday, Nov. 13, the upcoming season of the Project Runway spinoff will bring back past winners from the U.S. edition of the reality competition, plus past winners from Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Netherlands, and the U.K. Season 7 of All Stars will be the first international season and the first all-winners installment of All Stars. On paper, this is the spinoff's most impressive lineup yet. Lifetime's last Project Runway hurrah sure is pulling out all the stops.

"Lifetime’s last season of Project Runway All Stars is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019. Alyssa Milano will once again serve as our intrepid host, and veteran All Stars judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will return to their posts. Marie Claire editor-in-chief Anne Fulenwider will also come back as the mentor to the contestants.

Speaking of this season's batch of contestants, let's get into who which Project Runway winners will vie for the title of Project Runway All Stars: Winners Edition victor. From the U.S. edition of the design competition reality series, we have Season 6’s Irina Shabayeva, Seth Aaron Henderson of Season 3, Anya Ayoung-Chee of Season 9, Season 11’s Michelle Lesniak, Season 13’s Sean Kelly, All Stars Season 2’s Anthony Ryan, and Dmitry Sholokhov of Season 10 and All Stars Season 4. Will Dmitry go for the three-peat? Can't wait to find out.

This season of All Stars will be the last time a Project Runway program airs on Lifetime. During NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation back in May, Andy Cohen revealed Project Runway will return to Bravo “where it all started.” The first season of Project Runway premiered on Bravo in 2004 and stayed on that network for five seasons. In 2009, it moved to Lifetime for 11 more, and now it is moving again. All Stars premiered on Lifetime in 2012, but Bravo has yet to announce if the Project Runway spinoff will join Project Runway on its new/old network."

New Article: Exclusive Rob Lowe, Alyssa Milano, other celebs respond to Kevin Spacey's 'creepy' video!
Posted on 30 Dec 2018

Gallery Updates icon

Hello everybody,

Fellow actors and others are responding to Kevin Spacey's bizarre Christmas Eve video as his "House of Cards" character Frank Underwood, who was killed off the Netflix series after sexual misconduct allegations emerged about the actor. In the video, Spacey, in character as Underwood, says: “Of course some believed everything and have just been waiting with bated breath to hear me confess it all; they’re just dying to have me declare that everything they said is true and I got what I deserved. ... I’m certainly not going to pay the price for the thing I didn’t do.”

"“Soon enough, you will know the full truth.”

The three-minute video ended with a burst of cliffhanger music.

Within an hour of Spacey tweeting a link to the video, "Insatiable" star and #MeToo activist Alyssa Milano, 46, retweeted a news story from earlier that day, in which authorities confirmed Spacey faces sexual assault charges in Boston. "And after you read this," she wrote, "then watch the creepy video Mr. Spacey posted after the news broke."

Shortly afterward, comedian and political commentator W. Kamau Bell, 45, tweeted, "That Kevin Spacey video is further proof that no matter how rich and famous you get you need at least 3 people in your life who have no problem saying to you . . . ," followed by a GIF of "Saturday Night Live" comic Leslie Jones looking perplexed, with the superimposed graphical text "Bruh?? What the hell??").

"Escape at Dannemora" and former "Medium" star Patricia Arquette, 50, tweeted, "I'm sure none of the men who were kids at the time of their sexual assaults appreciate @KevinSpacey's weird video," referring to the multiple allegations against the actor, beginning in October 2017 when "Star Trek: Discovery" star Anthony Rapp revealed that an adult Spacey had made sexual advances toward him in 1986, when Rapp was 14. Spacey, who publicly apologized to Rapp, infamously used the same 2017 social media post to also reveal that he is a gay man. Several celebrities similarly leveled heavy criticism at Spacey after that post."

New Article: Exclusive On The Alyssa Milano Lands Deal For Activism-Themed Children's Book Series!
Posted on 24 Dec 2018
Posted by Admin
Alyssa News icon

Hello everybody,

Alyssa Milano is channeling her activism in a new mode: children’s books. EW can exclusively announce that Milano has signed a major book deal with Scholastic to publish a series entitled Hope, with the first volume slated for an Oct. 1, 2019 release. Illustrated by Eric S. Keyes, it’s described as an empowering fiction series centered on a spunky 11-year-old girl who seeks to create social change in her community.

"“As a mother, I can’t think of a more important time to let kids know that their voice matters,” Milano said in a statement. “I’m so excited about my new character, Hope Roberts. She believes in dreaming big. She’s brave and strong and confident in her abilities — but she’s also a girl just trying to survive middle school. I’m thrilled to be working with Scholastic on this empowering book series and can’t wait for everyone to meet Hope.”

Named one of the 2017 Persons of the Year in TIME magazine alongside other activists, Milano gained notice last year for helping to popularize the #MeToo movement. As an actress she’s known for her roles in Charmed, Melrose Place, and Who’s the Boss? (see a photo from her childhood role above) and she most recently appeared in the Netflix series Insatiable.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Alyssa Milano’s for years and I was so excited from the very moment she shared her idea and vision for Hope — a series centered around a smart and passionate character who is ready to conquer the world,” Debra Dorfman, Vice President and Publisher for Global Licensing, Brands and Media of Scholastic, said in a statement. “Alyssa is such positive role model and I admire how she uses her voice and her platform to help those in need around the world, especially children. We at Scholastic are thrilled to share her inspiring and hopeful message to kids everywhere.”"

Charmed Updates: Exclusive ‘Charmed’ Reboot - 7 Biggest Differences Between The CW Pilot and the Original Series!
Posted on 22 Dec 2018
Posted by Admin
Charmed Updates icon

Hello everybody,

Something wicked this way came to The CW Sunday: the series premiere of the network’s “Charmed” reboot. The magical IP’s return to the small screen was eagerly anticipated by viewers excited to see a new tale of sisterhood — and not to so eagerly by die-hard fans of the series starring Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and later Rose McGowan, which ran on the now-defunct WB network from 1998-2006.

"That latter group has been highly critical of the reincarnation led by Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery and Madeleine Mantock since it was picked up last spring. And now that the trio has finally made their debut as a new group of witchy siblings, TheWrap thought we’d round up the biggest differences between The CW reboot’s pilot and the Constance M. Burge-created series that hit the airwaves 20 years ago.

(Don’t worry, a lack of alliteration is not among the key changes. See: Macy, Mel and Maggie vs. Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige.)"
