Charmed Updates: Exclusive In 20 Years Later, We Might Need More Shows Like Charmed On Television For Sure!

Hello everybody,

It’s official — or, as official as it’s going to get for a while — The CW is bringing back Charmed. The network announced they’ve ordered a pilot of the rebooted series into production, bringing back the Halliwell sisters for a new generation of fans. It’s a well-timed revival, as the original series celebrates its 20th anniversary this fall, and fans of the famous Charmed Ones will be waxing nostalgic, and perhaps primed to introduce their own kids to a series that’s a little less dated than the one with which they grew up.

"But there is one thing this new series needs to remember about its predecessor: it may have been about witches and warlocks and demons, but at its heart, Charmed was always about women fighting the horrors of their gender. In fact, it’s a lesson more genre shows should learn overall.

The first few seasons offer the ideal version of this format, as the Charmed Ones learned more about their powers, overcame their interpersonal issues, and were introduced to simpler bad guys than those who would come later as the stakes rose. In just the first two seasons alone, the sisters dealt with career troubles, run-ins with the law, and demonic bosses and boyfriends — all while attempting to balance their normal lives with their witchy ones.

But family played an even greater role in the show than just binding its main characters in an inescapable relationship. It also set the stage for those women to delve into and get to know their family history. Over the course of the series, whether in the early seasons or late, every one of the Halliwell brood comes to know and understand their family more deeply, whether it’s meeting their matriarch (and delivering her in some very time-wimey circumstances) or visiting past lives or even just learning more about their parents. Every season offered new insights into where they came from, and showed an appreciation for understanding that heritage.

It’s something very few supernatural shows tend to do, perhaps because very few shows these days actually focus on family — though many do focus on found families, which is a very different dynamic.

This new Charmed series is far from a done deal. The CW has so far only ordered a pilot episode into production and we won’t know whether they pick up the series for some time. The show’s executive producer, meanwhile, has been quick to point out that the creative team has made some noted changes to the original format, specifically choosing to give the show a “witches vs. the patriarchy” approach to its weekly episodes.

What that will actually look like, and whether it will be handled with the same nuance as the original show, remains to be seen. But even if this new generation of Charmed Ones doesn’t come to be, the original still has a great deal to teach us, our children, and television creators two decades after they first got their powers."

Project Updates: Exclusive Project Runway All Stars episode 5 is more about being empowered by a certain kind of look.

Hello everybody,

Over the past year, women have found their power. Whether it is Wonder Woman inspired strength or willingness to speak out in the Me Too movement, every woman can be a superhero. In Project Runway All Stars episode 5, the designers’ looks need to embody that super hero strut.

"Every week Project Runway All Stars incorporates a new theme. Like last week’s unconventional challenge, the designers need to find inspiration from a theme without being too literal. This week’s inspiration was a beauty product which needed to be interpreted into a superhero power. Unfortunately, literal interpretations caused a designer’s demise.

Have you ever had that moment when you put on the perfect outfit and feel empowered? This challenge embodied that feeling. Even though the designs were to have a “super power,” the real theme was women’s empowerment. The top designs showed a confident woman strutting down the catwalk.

This season of Project Runway All Stars has seen a few designers take control of the competition. Fabio and Anthony seem to be the judges’ favorites. Each week, these two designers come up with innovative and stunning looks to walk the runway. This week was no different.

Anthony’s pure white gown with voluminous sleeves was a vision. The delicately tailored dress highlighted a perfect neckline. While the bodice was sleek, the sleeves were the perfect contrast. The design was fashion forward and powerful.

While his superhero power story was a little strange, the dress didn’t need a story line. The model looked powerful and confident. It definitely made a fashion statement."

Project Updates: Exclusive On ‘Project Runway All Stars’ shocker, Did Amanda Valentine really deserve to be eliminated in 11th place?
Posted on 03 Feb 2018

Projects icon

Hello everybody,

In our weekly predictions for “Project Runway All Stars” season six Amanda Valentine was the front-runner to win for the better part of five weeks. So it came as a shock that she was eliminated in 11th place in Thursday night’s episode, “Fashion’s New Superheroes.” Did she really deserve to go home so soon?

"The challenge for this episode required the designers to take inspiration from Rodial beauty products and translate those products into fierce designs to unleash their models’ inner superheroes.

Valentine got “Pink Diamond,” and she struggled early on to wrap her mind around the concept because she didn’t know much about superheroes and the color pink was outside of her comfort zone. But she put in extra effort — maybe too much effort? — to create a complex color-blocking pattern that created a strong, geometric effect on the runway.

“I really love the angles of the color-blocking,” said Amanda as her model strutted down the runway. “I think I did okay.” Frankly, I thought she did better than okay, so when she was called forward for critiques from the judges I thought at first that she was one of the high scorers — certainly not the contestant who would be eliminated.

Judge Georgina Chapman thought Valentine’s fabric was better suited to curtains, and Isaac Mizrahi said outright, “That dress was just bad.” Ultimately, even though the judges found Edmond Newton‘s look derivative and Merline Labissiere‘s look repetitive, it was Valentine who was sent home."

New Article: Rose McGowan calls her Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano As "a lie" over the MeToo and Time's Up movements
Posted on 02 Feb 2018
Posted by Admin
Alyssa News icon

Hello everybody,

Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano have very publicly fallen out over the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, with McGowan referring to her former Charmed co-star as "a lie". The disharmony between the two dates back several months, when Alyssa Milano called Harvey Weinstein's estranged wife Georgina Chapman an "amazing woman" in the aftermath of the first Weinstein allegations. McGowan is among the women accusing Weinstein of historic sexual assault.

"McGowan tweeted at the time that Milano's defence of Georgina Chapman made her "want to vomit", and later criticised Milano and other Hollywood women for their organisation of the Time's Up movement. However, there's another strand to their falling out as well. Milano is married to David Bugliari, an agent with Hollywood's powerful Creative Artists Agency (CAA) firm.

Last autumn, CAA was accused by Courtney Love of blacklisting her for publicly speaking out against Weinstein long before this current scandal. All of this came to a head in an interview with McGowan for ABC News' Nightline, in which co-anchor Juju Chang asked directly about Milano's role in popularising the #MeToo movement on social media.

"I don't like her. Cause I think she's a lie," McGowan answered. "Do you think I don't know these people? I'm not looking at this from the outside. "I have a lot of experience. I know she's married to a CAA agent [David Bugliari]. Do the math. Who's behind Time's Up? CAA. Where do they meet? CAA. "Who needs good PR? CAA. Who are part of the pimp problem? CAA."

CAA declined to comment on those allegations. However, Milano herself did release a statement on Thursday (February 1) in an attempt to answer the criticisms leveled by her former co-star. "I am and always have been completely supportive of Rose and admire her bravery in speaking out about her experiences," Milano said.

"My goal throughout the past few months with both #MeToo and the Time's Up movement has been to use my platform to give others a voice so we can all work together to stamp out sexual harassment and sexual assault." McGowan also responded to ABC publicizing her falling out with Milano, tweeting: "Yeah, I knew this would be the pull quote, but the lie is a system, not an individual."

The 44-year-old actress has been making a series of media appearances this week to promote her docu-series Citizen Rose, which premiered in the US on E! on Tuesday. Earlier this week, McGowan also accused Weinstein of trying to publicly "slut shame" her for a press statement in which he dismissed her sexual assault allegations as a "bold lie"."

Charmed Updates: Exclusive About How The New “Charmed” Reboot Is Taking a Feminist Direction Compared To Original One!
Posted on 01 Feb 2018
Posted by Admin
Charmed Updates icon

Hello everybody,

Charmed is set to make a return to the small screen. Now, a generation too young to have experienced the supernatural TV show in its original will have a chance to enjoy the show. The official announcement for the reboot of the show describes it as a “fierce, funny and feminist” reboot of the original fan favorite. Inclusion of the “feminist” descriptor has sparked all kinds of controversy with some of the original cast and many fans taking offense and arguing that the show was always feminist.

"It is confirmed that CW has officially ordered a pilot of the Charmed remake. Speculation that it was to be a prequel has finally been squashed and we now know that the redeveloped script will set the action in a college town the present day. Writers Amy Rardin and Jessica O’Toole from Jane the Virgin are on board. It appears that none of the original cast or any of those creatively connected with the show are to have an input into the reboot.

Charmed launched in October of 1998 and ran for a total of 8 seasons. The show followed the fortunes of three sisters who discover they are witches, happily the kind of good witch hell bent on fighting for good against menace and evil. The powerful sister witches struggle to balance their evil fighting mission with preserving their secret identities and pursuing relationships. The members of the coven were played by Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Shannen’s character Prue was killed off at the end of series three and replaced by Rose McGowan, the reunited long lost half-sister of the siblings.

Combs has weighed in with her views, describing the reboot as simply a way of cashing in on the massive cult following and huge fan base that the original enjoyed. Combs appeared to be especially miffed by the inclusion of the description “feminist”, taking to social media to pour her disdain and tweeting “Guess we forgot to do that the first go around. Hmph”. Sour grapes may be part of her cynicism as the actress made it clear that in her view the show belonged to the 4 of them.

Shannen has also weighed in although she’s taken a softer line. She engaged with her fans on Twitter about the projected show and claimed to be maintaining an open mind. The actress indicated that she was highly intrigued by the notion of the reboot. In response to a fan who pointed out that a show with strong female roles was a good thing, Shannen wholeheartedly agreed. She did berate the show’s promoters for a “terrible, offensive description” but added that it was a mistake and that she’d made a few herself. Shannen is currently involved in a remake of Heathers, another girl power original which is itching for a millennial treatment.

While undoubtedly Charmed the original show was a Girl Power show for a generation that was raised on Girl Power revising history to describe it as feminist may be a stretch. Undoubtedly it was a show about women who kick ass and that’s to be applauded but “feminist” implies a more complex take and arguably less fan-service when it comes to the costumes of the three beautiful stars. Whether the reboot delivers flawed, well written and consistent characters who really are intent on “tearing down the Patriarchy” remains to be seen. One thing is for certain all the controversy has everyone talking about the remake even before the pilot has been cast."

Project Updates: Exclusive Isaac Mizrahi on Mentors, Project Runway Allstars and His New Cabaret Show!
Posted on 31 Jan 2018

Projects icon

Hello everybody,

Isaac Mizrahi is the ultimate renaissance man. The talented designer, who has dressed countless women including Meryl Streep, Audrey Hepburn, Hilary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michelle Obama, also has his wildly successful QVC collection, Isaac Mizrahi Live! Plus, this wunderkind is a judge on Project Runway All Stars and designs costumes for opera, ballet, Broadway and Off Broadway.

"But if that’s not enough, for the past two decades Mizrahi has been performing with his band lead by pianist and music director Ben Waltzer. “It’s like when I began designing clothes. It just started happening,” says Mizrahi.

“When I was a kid I put on shows on street corners, in my alleyway, at the beach club and did impressions of Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. People would crowd around me. It was a way expressing myself.”

This month, Mizrahi returns to the glamorous Café Carlyle for his all-new show, Isaac Mizrahi: Moderate to Severe. He and his talented jazz musicians, led by Waltzer, will perform a variety of classics from Bob Dylan to Blondie as he dishes about his life. “Cabaret is inches away from throwing a really good party,” explains Mizrahi.

Another allure is the extreme intimacy of the historic Café Carlyle. “You are literally standing across the table from people having dinner. And you happen to have a band with you and be singing sometimes. There is something about that room that’s a cabaret vortex. It makes me feel so free to experiment.”"

Hello everybody,

I am trying to make something different here with "Charmed Novel" since the page that I am building is still under construction. Let's continue this week with the online novel penned by Carla Jablonski "The Gypsy Enchantment"! The story takes place between Season 2 Episode 17 "How to Make a Quilt Out of Americans" and the Season 3 premiere as Piper has ended her relationship with Dan, but Phoebe has not yet gained her active power of Levitation.

"Description:

Three-ring acts and thrice-told tales
Bring threefold power that never fails.
Gypsy legends, Gypsy lore,
Gypsy demons haunt no more

Prue is in a serious funk. Her latest photo assignment for 415 is an in-depth article about the Carnival Cavalcade — circus acts in a tent, and a midway with games and food. Prue hates circuses, but Piper and Phoebe are up for meeting the tattooed snake-charmer, clowns, and especially Ivan, the handsome Gypsy animal trainer. But a dark sign seems to mark him, and Phoebe has a vision of Piper — strangled by a handsome stranger!

Could Ivan be a demon in disguise? A mysterious fire and a tragic death compel the Charmed Ones to use their gifts. Now it's the Power of Three against the magic of ancient Gypsy forces!"

Charmed Updates: Exclusive As A Charmed Reboot Is Back on Track, And It Will "Tear Down the Patriarchy"
Posted on 28 Jan 2018
Posted by Admin
Charmed Updates icon

Hello everybody,

After a bit of a misfire last year, a Charmed reboot is finally in the works — and apparently it will center on the Power of Three taking down the patriarchy. This already sounds promising.

"Last year, the CW Network was developing a reboot/prequel set in the ‘70s, but it looks like they’ve had a change of heart and have retooled the show into a present-day drama, which means there's cameo potential for the original cast.

A new pilot is currently in the works, and will focus on three young sisters who discover they’re witches. The re-imagined Charmed is set in a college town and, according to the synopsis, the sisters will be “vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds.”

Unfortunately, all the OG sisters are unlikely to join the reboot — Shannen Doherty, for example, who is appearing in the new Heathers TV series, pretty much hates the idea. Holly Marie Combs took to Twitter today and said, "Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye."

Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.
— Holly Marie Combs (@H_Combs) January 26, 2018

Alyssa Milano, however, seem a little more receptive to the idea; Milano has even recently shared a throwback to the show on Instagram!"

New Article: Exclusive Alyssa Milano Aims To Counter Donald Trump's State Of The Union Address
Posted on 28 Jan 2018
Posted by Admin
Appearances icon

Hello everybody,

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano will host "a hopeful, public alternative" to US President Donald Trump's State of the Union address. Milano's "State of the Dream" digital initiative is soliciting and will present brief videos from Americans describing their dreams for the country. The videos will be simultaneously posted on Twitter and other social media just as Trump begins his address on January 30, reports deadline.com.

""#StateOfTheDream will highlight what truly makes America great: that we come from many places, races and creeds, and together work for a more perfect union," Milano wrote in an instruction sheet that she tweeted.

"Our digital #StateOfTheDream address will support our dreamers and immigrants, call for a dream act, lean into the Senate, fundraiser for United We Dream, and express our vision for a more inclusive, progressive America."

Milano, who helped popularise Tarana Burke's #MeToo movement, wrote that everyone is welcome to post a video, but she especially encourages anyone seeking political office to participate.

After the initial video blast, contributors can continue "the unifying tweetstorm" by posting with the #StateOfTheDream hashtag.

The actress says a toolkit will be released prior to January 30.

Milano's project will follow by a day the People's State of the Union live-stream event at New York City's Town Hall, a gathering of progressive organisations (MoveOn.org, We Stand United, Stand Up America, People For The American Way, among others) and celebrities including Mark Ruffalo, Whoopi Goldberg, John Leguizamo, Michael Moore and Wanda Sykes.

Set for Monday, the event is self-described as "a hopeful, public alternative to Trump's State of the Union", and will outline a plan of action for the coming year focusing on voter rights, voter registration and voter turnout."

New Article: Exclusive Alyssa Milano On Women Are Increasingly Becoming An Economic—And Entrepreneurial Force!
Posted on 28 Jan 2018
Posted by Admin
Alyssa News icon

Hello everybody,

Women are increasingly becoming an economic—and entrepreneurial—force to be reckoned with. While we have been an integral part of the workforce for decades, women-owned businesses have more than doubled in the last twenty years.

"Indeed, according to the 2017 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, there are 11.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States today, employing nearly 9 million people and generating more than $1.7 trillion in revenue. While the majority of these companies fall under “other services” (like hair and nail salons), health care and social assistance industries, retail is another area in which women-owned businesses are thriving.

Just ask Alyssa Milano. In addition to being an actor and activist, Milano is the founder of a sports fashion line for women and has enjoyed great success; she is the only licensee with licensing to every major sports league in female apparel.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Ms. Milano about her entrepreneurial spirit, involvement in day-to-day business operations, maintaining a work/life balance, and more."
