"Alyssa Milano couldn't contain her tears Tuesday discussing former "Who's the Boss?" costar Daniel Pintauro's recently revealed HIV-positive status on "The Talk."
"I hate that it took him so long to feel comfortable, but I'm so glad that he is able to express himself now," the "Mistresses" actress said of her fellow child actor.
Pintauro, 39, revealed Saturday on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" that he's been HIV-positive for 12 years, following a post-relationship period in which he was experimenting with sex while using crystal meth. He said he knew exactly when he contracted the virus, and that he "didn't want to be that guy" for anyone else.
"There's this awful feeling of, I'm never going to be able to have a good relationship," he told Oprah Winfrey, discussing his reaction to the news in March 2003. "No one's ever going to want me.' ... That moment of, 'Oh, God, I'm now going to have to have that conversation every time I meet someone. Who's going to want to love me?'"
Pintauro, who was forced to come out about his sexuality in 1997 after a tabloid told him it was going to out him whether he participated or not, now wants to be an activist about HIV and the dangers of crystal meth.
"I guarantee you he will change so many lives," Milano said Tuesday. "And I'm so grateful that this disease is now being discussed again because it feels like there was such a long time that it wasn't."
Echoing some of Pintauro's words from the Oprah sit-down, she declared, "He is a beacon of light, and he will be."
She said she had "no idea" that her former costar was HIV-positive, because she'd fallen out of contact with him since their show wrapped in 1992 after eight seasons.
"Danny and I didn't talk for many years after the show was over, because when the show ended it was a different time. We didn't have cellphones or Facebook or anything," she said. "I would've been calling his parents' house, being like, 'Can I talk to Danny?'""
"Sprout, NBCUniversal’s 24-hour preschool network, announced today that Alyssa Milano will join the network as its first-ever Mom-Bassador. As Sprout’s Mom-Bassador, Milano—a mother of two young children—will be the voice and personality of the network’s brand refresh, which goes live on September 26th in celebration of Sprout’s 10th birthday. Milano narrates a series of segments that capture the energy and wonder of young children with vibrant photography, a rich color palette, and a contemporary, fresh feel that encompasses Sprout’s brand and programming content.
Milano will also serve as the face of Kindness Counts, the network’s signature pro-social campaign, which encourages and celebrates everyday acts of kindness. Sprout believes that kindness comes in all shapes and sizes and looks to highlight kids who are sparking kindness every day in their homes, school, communities and beyond. Milano will spearhead the nationwide search for the child who best embodies everyday acts of kindness to be named Sprout’s Chief Kindness Officer for 2016.
“Alyssa Milano is a true Sprout mom – she embodies the playfulness and energy that are the essence of the Sprout brand,” said Sandy Wax, President, Sprout. “We know families will relate to her as she shares her first-hand experiences as a parent with us, connecting with our viewers on a very real level.”
"As a mom, every day is about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary with my kids," said Alyssa Milano. "My family is a Sprout family, and to be able to work with the network as they transform the brand into something that reflects the contemporary feel and diversity of children today has been one of the most incredible experiences for me. I am excited to share ideas with families and showcase how Sprout is an integral part of my everyday life, too!"
Having starred as a child on the popular series, “Who’s the Boss,” Milano has spent much of her life in the public eye, continuing to work throughout her adulthood in both television and film. She is currently the host and a judge on the hit show “Project Runway: All Stars” and was most recently seen on ABC’s “Mistresses.” She has a history of starring in long-running television series, including Fox’s “Melrose Place” and WB’s “Charmed.” Milano also has a very successful clothing line, TOUCH by Alyssa Milano, and is the creator of the critically acclaimed graphic novel, Hacktivist. Milano is also a dedicated philanthropist; in 2003, UNICEF invited her to become a National Ambassador in recognition of her charitable work on behalf of children."
"It seems there's not much a mom can do that won't spark some sort of criticism or debate these days.
That's what actress and "Project Runway: All Stars" host Alyssa Milano learned after sharing photos on Instagram of herself participating in a perfectly natural mom activity — breast-feeding.
"I didn't really set out, posting those pictures, as taking a stand for breast-feeding," Milano revealed during a Wednesday visit to TODAY. "I was just kind of sharing a moment. And then I realized, through the responses, that it was a moment that kind of needed to happen to start a dialogue, because people are still very anti-breast-feeding in public."
The critical comments she faced on Instagram and beyond weren't her first experience with breast-feeding backlash.
"Someone once told me to breast-feed my baby in the bathroom, and I just thought ... yeah, that didn't go over too well," she recalled. "I just thought, 'Do you eat in a bathroom in a stall?' It's so weird.""
"If Alyssa Milano were the boss of a television network, she knows what show she'd make happen: a reboot of her classic sitcom Who's the Boss?Speaking to Page Six, Milano revealed that she would "100 percent" be on board a reboot if the script were right.
Milano, who starred opposite Tony Danza in the series, says she'd want her old costar to be involved. "I think [my character Samantha] would have [her own] kids and Tony would be a grandfather," Milano said.
The series aired on ABC from 1984 to 1992, and centered on Tony (Danza), an ex-baseball player and widower who moves to Brooklyn with his daughter Samantha (Milano) to take a job as a live-in housekeeper.
Revisiting '90s classics is all the rage at the moment, with revivals of Full House, Coach and Xena: Warrior Princess among those in the works. Would you watch a Who's the Boss? reboot? Sound off in the comments."
"Alyssa Milano is all about putting family first. AOL.com sat down with Milano while promoting her new chic line of Viva® Signature Designs Towels to discuss what it's like being a working mother and how she balances work and family time with her busy schedule.
"It's no joke being a working mom," Alyssa confessed. "Everyday is a balancing act -- some days I do it better than others, but they are my priority."
And that has meant turning down her starring role in "Mistresses" after the show moved to Toronto, in order to be with her children and husband, talent agent David Bugliari. "It wasn't hard at all," she revealed. "Because the most important thing is my family, and that just doesn't mean my kids but also my husband and keeping the marriage healthy."
Mom to 1-year-old daughter, Elizabella and 4-year-old son, Milo, the actress dished that a "normal" day for her means getting up at 6:15 a.m. to breastfeed, make breakfast, and get Milo ready for school.
But the real craziness, she says, is when everyone is back home in time for dinner then bath time -- "You know, the normal, typical mom schedule."
Something not-so-typical though, is her fabulous role on Lifetime's "Project Runway: All Stars", set to premiere in February. Surrounded by a group full of talented budding designers and the brilliant Isaac Mizrahi, she feels lucky to be able to go to work everyday and be around so much talent and creativity.
"It's kind of a dream job," she said. "You get to go to work, you get to wear incredible clothes, get your hair and makeup done by the best of the best, and sit there and look at fashion all day.""
