"It’s been 11 years since Charmed went off the air, and the beloved drama about a trio of witches still has a wickedly devoted following. Yet rumors of a reunion with stars Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs remain just that — rumors.
“They were going to reboot it as a prequel. The script came in last year and they didn’t feel it was strong enough or held up to the integrity of the original, so they decided not to move ahead with it,” Alyssa tells In Touch. “They did the right thing.”
“We all said that we would do it, but nobody’s actually put that in motion,” she says.
“I’m working with CBS Studios on my new Netflix show Insatiable, and that’s the studio that was trying to reboot Charmed,” Alyssa tells In Touch, “so I feel like I have an in there, but nothing has changed.”"
"People weren’t sure Charmed would survive when eldest sister Prue Halliwell (played by Shannen Doherty) was killed off, but with the departure of Prue came the introduction of sassy half-sister Paige Matthews (Rose McGowan). There were some growing pains along the way, but Paige remained on the series until its celebrated end. Shortly thereafter, Zenescope continued the adventures of the Halliwell sisters by publishing seasons 9 and 10 in comic book format. When Zenescope chose to drop the license, Dynamite Entertainment swooped in, putting out a brand new series that will be published in trade paperback format in October of 2017.
Something wicked this way comes (again!) as Dynamite has just announced a new, original Charmed graphic novel. The graphic novel will be manga-style, with the talents of freelance writer Katy Rex, and freelance illustrator Amanda Schank. Jen Bartel (Jem and the Holograms) will be doing the cover. They’ll be taking Piper, Phoebe, and Paige on a brand new, 104-page magical adventure:
A blend of supernatural fantasy, horror, humor and heart, the Charmed Manga introduces Delia, a young girl learning to live with her burgeoning supernatural powers. When she accidentally unleashes them – with disastrous results – at her school, the incident gets the attention of Phoebe, Piper, and Paige Halliwell: three witches with a lot of experience managing magical abilities. With the assistance of the sisters and the Magic School, Delia begins to make a new life for herself, but magic has a way of getting out of control…
Charmed, the supernatural television sensation, returns in an all-new tale of magic and mystery… but this time, the adventures of the Halliwell Sisters are told as manga!
Delia, a young girl with blossoming and uncontrollable supernatural powers, accidentally unleashes her powers in a school. A danger to herself and others, she draws the attention of Phoebe, Piper, and Paige – three witches with experience managing innate abilities! With their help, Delia begins to make a new life for herself… but magic has a way of getting out of control, and it’s only a matter of time before this incredibly powerful novice draws the unwanted attention of sinister forces!
It’s slated for release in February."
"Alyssa Milano and her daughter Elizabella went all out for Halloween! The actress took to Instagram to share a shot of the pair wearing flannel Daisy Duck costumes for the day of spook!
“Happy Halloween from Daisy Duck x 2!,“ she captioned the shot on Tuesday morning.
After the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the Charmed star started the #metoo social media movement, a hashtag meant to shed light on the sexual harassment and assault women experience in society.
“If all the women who have ever been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me too.’ as a status, then we give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem,” she wrote on Instagram.
Milano is also mom to son Milo.
She is married to Dave Bugliari."
"Gelber will play Hank Thompson, Nonnie’s Dad (Kimmy Shields), a local cop who doesn’t see much action in this small town. He’s eager for excitement from his beat (even though he might not be equipped to handle it). Lasovic will portray Christian who is raised by a mother in the Junior League and a preacher father. Christian naturally rebelled against his wholesome family making him an outcast and kind of popular.
Cast also includes Sarah Colonna, Alyssa Milano, Erinn Westbrook, Michael Provost and Chris Gorham. Gelber’s credits include recurring roles on Elementary, Mr. Robot and Law & Order: SVU. He’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency.
Lastovic was last seen in a two-year contract role on Days Of Our Lives. He’s repped by Global Artists Agency and Fran Blain Management.
Insatiable is produced by CBS Television Studios, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Storied Media Group. Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Todd Hoffman, Dennis Kim, Lauren Gussis and Andrea Shay executive produce."
"Enter: Alyssa Milano, star of Charmed and all-around amazing human being. Milano recently spoke with In Touch Weekly about a variety of things, but of course, the hottest topic was the oft-spoken-about Charmed reboot. So, is it still happening? From the picture Milano paints, it sounds like this project has already undergone some major changes in regards to what shape it would take — a sign that things are not looking so good.
"They were going to reboot it as a prequel. The script came in last year and they didn’t feel it was strong enough or held up to the integrity of the original, so they decided not to move ahead with it," she told the magazine.
Equally telling about the quality of the proposed reboot was Milano's simple personal verdict on the Charmed reboot falling flat in the preproduction phase: "They did the right thing." Damn.
Milano's additional comments indicate that along with the quality of the proposed reboot idea seemingly lacking, the show's other stars are just moving in different directions in regard to their careers right now. "We all said that we would do it, but nobody’s actually put that in motion," she explained. "I’m working with CBS Studios on my new Netflix show Insatiable, and that’s the studio that was trying to reboot Charmed."
While it's exciting that Milano has a new project we can check out soon on Netflix, it's a little disappointing to know we won't be reunited with our Charmed faves. Then again, never say never, right?"
"As every Charmed fan knows, your power comes from your emotions. And right now we’ve got a whole lot of power, because 19 years ago today, Oct. 7, the cult classic TV show premiered and we were introduced to the Halliwells — the three best sisters in the world.
Well, first set of three — there’s much debate over whether the Shannen Doherty seasons or the Rose McGowan years were the better era. But let’s not go there right now, for today is a happy day. Today we look back on all that was Charmed and pay tribute to what may not have been a critical success, but is arguably one of the best guilty pleasure series of all time.
The show ran for eight glorious seasons on The WB (now The CW) and even though it went off the air over a decade ago, it is now one of the most binged shows on Netflix. That means members of a new generation are being introduced to Prue (Shannen), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) and Paige (Rose) every single day. Of course, at the same time they are getting tangled up in the siblings’ complicated love lives.
Actually, complicated doesn’t even begin to cover what those four accomplished in a series that was mainly about magic, sisterhood and girl power. So, in honor of a show that gave us unrealistic expectations about everything from the hairstyles we could accomplish our own each morning (come on, Pheebs) to proper work attire (we’re looking at you, Prue) we thought it was only right to talk about the men of Charmed too. You can see the steamiest moments our ladies shared with their guys in the gallery above.
There’s Leo (Brian Krause) a literal angel and Piper’s soulmate. We spent eight years rooting for these two and in that time had our hearts ripped out and stomped on every time the Elders stuck their noses where they didn’t belong. Then there was Cole (Julian McMahon), who was the ultimate bad boy (he literally became The Source of All Evil) and a HORRIBLE match for Phoebe. But nothing could stop us from hardcore shipping those two till the very end.
Look, Coop, we get that you’re a cupid and the perfect man who ultimately married Phoebe, but we are Team Cole for life. When Prue’s high school sweetheart Andy (T.W. King) died we took it almost as hard as when the eldest sister was murdered herself — I said ALMOST. And it may have taken Paige the entire series, but when she finally met her husband Henry (Ivan Sergei), we breathed a sigh of relief.
We may never get over losing our Charmed Ones, but the Book of Shadows had to close eventually, right? Well, unless you’re one of those people who thinks the CW reboot is a good idea. But if that’s the case, I’d keep that opinion to yourself."
"In January 2016, I made a decision: I was going to Get Fit. Like many people, I joined Planet Fitness with the goal of transforming my body for only $20 bucks a month; to the amazement of even myself, I stuck with it. After almost two years of various squats, lifts, and presses, I’ve experienced an unexpected development: My muscles have only gotten slightly bigger, but my knowledge of the old WB show Charmed has grown mightily.
Let me explain. Before it closed down, my favorite Planet Fitness was one in Downtown Brooklyn. It had gigantic windows, plenty of free weights, and most importantly for our purposes today, dozens of televisions arrayed over the treadmills. They were tuned to various channels, all of them silent. (The audio was a playlist of mildly successful R&B songs from six years ago.) But as I soon learned, 7:30 a.m. is not a golden hour for broadcast or cable television. Your options are basically infomercials, morning shows on local-news channels, terrible Kellan Lutz movies … or Charmed reruns, which air every weekday morning from seven to ten o’clock on TNT.
I have no idea if Charmed is a good show under normal circumstances, but in this one, it’s freaking great. Amid the rictus grins and CGI weather patterns that make up most morning TV, there’s something about Charmed that pulls in a gymgoer’s eye. The costumes and sets are always bright, everyone is super well-lit, and there are just enough recognizable faces in the guest cast to make you say, “Wow, so that’s what Zachary Quinto looked like in 2003.” You can generally follow the outline of what’s going on in any given episode, but with a little frisson of the unknown that, like watching someone else’s movie on a plane, makes gym TV-watching so special. You generally can figure out who the good guys and bad guys are in any given episode, but after that, you’ve got to fill in the gaps. Which sister is this hunky actor going to kiss? What is that CGI magical effect going to do? Why are they all dressed up like Greek goddesses?
If you’re curious, here is what I have learned about Charmed from 18 months of watching it on silent, without subtitles, in 45-minute increments."
